Perhaps I’m a coward for sneaking out while Shay is dozing peacefully, adorably snoring with light puffs of air, but I know that I don’t have the strength to tell him goodbye. It’s tempting to stay here in his arms for a while longer, but that will only make it harder to leave. I have a real life to get back to, with job commitments and a mother who needs me nearby.

By the time I get to the hotel lobby with my luggage in tow, everyone else is there milling about, except for Ruthie and Andrew. The two of them are extending their stay on the island to enjoy some alone time for their honeymoon.

We all ride together in a shuttle to the airport, with the exception of Grandmother Rose, who has arranged for private limo transportation for herself.

Kai keeps a comforting hand at the small of Roxy’s back as the rest of us give her tear-filled goodbye hugs near their gate. We get her promise to send us regular pregnancy updates, and we all gladly agree to make a trip to Hawaii as soon as the baby is born.

After leaving them, Baggy announces that she and Howie have been assigned a special super-secret mission in Madrid. Caroline reminds her mother in a stern voice to check in periodically.

“Yes, Ma’am.” Baggy gives her daughter a mock salute before grabbing her husband’s hand. The two of them run off together like giddy school children.

Jamie shakes her head. “Being outrageous and a little bit crazy must keep you young.”

“A little bit crazy?” I ask her and the rest of us chuckle.

Once our laughter dies down, I smile sadly at my new friend. I hate it that this is where we part ways––at least for now––but I’m thrilled to see that T.J. is holding her hand. I fervently hope that this isn’t the last time I see her.

“Take good care of her,” I tell the producer sternly.

“I intend to.” He assures me with a toothy white smile, before turning to kiss her cheek. I’m still not at all sure how suitable of a prospect he is for my friend, but he seems to make her happy, so I guess that is what matters.

Jamie blushes a lovely shade of pink when he kisses her, and she beams a radiant smile at me before pulling me into a hug. She whispers near my ear, “Shouldn’t you pack Shay into your suitcase and take him with you?”

“I wish,” I tell her sadly before adding, “But I can’t see him being content in the landlocked Midwest.”

She nods her agreement, but I see the wave of guilt pass over her face. Not wanting to put a damper on her happiness, I whisper to her, “I hope you and the croc live a long and happy life together.”

“There’s another side to him,” she assures me confidently as her cheeks puff out from her wide, knowing smile.

“I’ll take your word for it,” I tell her, gently squeezing both of her hands within mine.
